Glass recycling in Chania

31 yellow bins for glass collection and recycling were recently set out in Chania, as an extension of the recycling service already available for paper and aluminium.

The programme has been hailed a success, with 400 tonnes of recyclable material collected each month. The municipal authorities are keen to stress that the success of the service depends on citizen participation, which has been encouraging. As the rubbish is not sorted, please be careful to put only glass bottles in the bins, after removing the tops.

The recycling programme is shortly expected to spread to Rethymnon and, later, the other municipalities of Crete.
