Greek books popular in Turkey

Greek books are particularly popular in Turkey, where about 100 titles are currently in circulation. The most popular author is the famous Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis with 19 books in translation, followed by the poet Yannis Ritsos with 12.

There has been a turn towards Greek literature in recent years and works by many new authors have been translated into Turkish. However, piracy remains a major problem, as is the reluctance of Turkish publishers to pay authors’ rights.
