fragment of the Erechtheion on the Acropolis
returned to Greece

A retired gym teacher from Sweden has returned a small fragment of the Erechtheion on the Acropolis (near the Parthenon) which has been in her family for over a hundred years.

The piece belongs to the epikrantis of the small temple, renowned for its maiden-shaped columns of the Caryatids.

She hopes her small gesture will have a big impact. She told the Greek Ministry of Culture “I returned the small piece from the Acropolis. I wish the British government also returns to Athens all that it has removed”.
