National Road closed at Malia

On 28 November the national road closed at Malia to vehicles travelling from Agios Nikolaos to Heraklion.

The road closed due to Malia Municipality works in the town, where the roads are being dug up for sewage pipes. Care should be taken when driving through the town, as only the Heraklion to Agios Nikolaos lane is open.

For drivers coming from Agios Nikolaos, the national road is closed outside Malia and vehicles are diverted towards Malia archaeological site, along the coast road and through the town to the other side of Malia. There are signs and a fence at the diversion but please take care, especially at night, in order to avoid serious accidents.

The works at Malia should be completed in about two months’ time, at the end of January to the beginning of February, when the national road will open again as normal.
