Indian immigrant dies of exposure under Rethymnon bridge

Alcohol and cold killed a 43-years old immigrant in Rethymnon

An 43-year-old Indian man was found dead under a bridge in the Rethymnon area. The unfortunate man, who was illegally resident in Greece, fell asleep under the bridge having consumed a large amount of alcohol (raki). He died of cold in the freezing night. His body will be returned to India for burial.

People exposed to temperatures under 15 degrees Centigrade and have consumed large amounts of alcohol are extremely vulnerable to exposure. The cause is vasodilation, leading to rapid heat loss.
