Scandinavian tourists spend more in Greece

Scandinavians are the biggest spenders outside hotels on holiday in Greece, rather than Germans as was previously thought. This was the result of a tourism study on Cos and Rhodes involving 3,000 tourists, undertaken by the Dodecanese Development Agency and soon to be implemented in Crete from April to October.

The study, presented at the offices of the Heraklion Hotel-Owners’ Association, shows that Scandinavians spend about 54 euros a day on average, whereas Germans only spend 34 euros.

Other findings show a huge 52% rise in “all inclusive” holidays.15% of respondents said they booked their holiday over the Internet rather than a tour agency, while 54% found information on the country through the Internet. People who pre-booked their holidays did so about 3 months in advance, presumably in order to benefit from cheaper prices.

The President of the Hotel-Owners’ Association, Nikiforos Lambrinos, said that the study will be implemented in Crete, with the distribution of questionnaires to people arriving at Heraklion Airport and possibly also Chania Airport.
