Rethymnon Carnival 2008

The Rethymnon Carnival started on 15 February and the carnival events are ready to draw the whole town and most of Crete into an endless party, as the Rethymnon Carnival has been established for many years as the “Carnival of Crete”.

The float of Dionysus set off on 15 February from the Square of the Unknown Soldier and ended up in the centre of town, where there was lots of fun, music, dancing and drinking.

The highlight of the Carnival is the Grand Float Parade in Rethymnon town centre on 9 March. Thirty-two teams, 21 floats and nine thousand revellers promise a sight to be remembered.

The following Rethymnon Carnival events will be held over the next few days:

SUNDAY 2 MARCH

Carnival Teams’ Dance and theatrical sketches at 20:00 at the MEGARON club.

TUESDAY 4 MARCH

Carnival party at the Metropolis organised by the “Ypoloipoi” Team.

WEDNESDAY 5 MARCH

Carnival party at the Metropolis organised by the “Aschetoi” Team.
Bachelor party at the Ice Club organised by the “Dachtylodeiktoumenoi” Team.

THURSDAY 6 MARCH
Carnival party at the Metropolis organised by the “Gousgounides” Team.

Carnival party at the Fortezza Club organised by the “Rodolinoi” Team.

FRIDAY 7 MARCH

Carnival party organised by the “Emeis & Emeis” Team, “Kitschirella” party by the “Machmourlides” Team at the Cuba Club, “Sixties Vermouth Party” by the “Fev...gatoi” Team at the Μuzik Club.

SATURDAY 8 MARCH

Night Parade starting at 21:00 from Elina Hotel along Koundouriotis Avenue, with street party.

SUNDAY 9 MARCH

Grand Parade - Procession of floats and their crews along Koundouriotis Avenue, starting at 14:00

MONDAY 10 MARCH (CLEAN MONDAY): Kite-flying
