New road to bypass Stalida and Malia

The contract for the construction of part of the north road axis to bypass Malia has been signed. According to the terms of the contract, the 5.5-km-long road will be completed by the end of 2008 with a budget of 16 million euros.

Today the Heraklion-Agios Nikolaos national road is interrupted outside Hersonissos and drivers are forced to go through Stalida and Malia, causing significant delays.

The whole Stalida-Malia bypass is 8.5 km long and includes two viaducts. The first three-kilometre stretch is already well on the way to completion by a different contractor.
